Durlston’s Inaugural Year 11 Cohort Celebrates at Prom

Year 11 pupils at Durlston School celebrated in style at their prom, held at Burley Manor Hotel.

The evening marked a significant milestone in the school’s history, celebrating Durlston’s expansion into senior education. The occasion reflected both the school’s academic ambitions and its longstanding commitment to nurturing individual confidence and talent.

The cohort, whose pupils joined Durlston at various stages of their education – from Nursery and Middle School through to the Senior years – represents the school’s first-ever Year 11 group to complete their GCSEs following the extension of education to age 16 in 2023.

Headmaster Richard May said: “We are immensely proud of this pioneering year group. They have represented the school with distinction, embraced challenges with courage and resilience, and contributed enormously to our community. Throughout their time with us, they have demonstrated humour, camaraderie, kindness and determination. They are, indeed, a very special group of young people.”

As they move on to the next stage of their educational journeys, pupils are planning to continue their studies at a range of further education schools and colleges, including Winchester College, Barton Peveril Sixth Form College, Brockenhurst CollegePeter Symonds College and Bryanston School.

The prom provided a fitting celebration for a trailblazing group of pupils whose achievements have helped shape an exciting new chapter in Durlston School’s history.
