In supporting our pupils as they become young adults, we are exceptionally proud of the high level of pastoral care. We give pupils space to grow, retain a sense of fun and above all else to enjoy being at school, forming friendships and respectful relationships.
Academic Excellence
- Our size means we truly know each pupil: their strengths, challenges, and ambitions. This personalised approach builds confidence, resilience, and a strong drive to succeed.
- Our highly qualified teachers bring expertise and enthusiasm to inspire pupils in their studies and GCSE choices.
- Consistency and care – With the same teachers across years, we can track progress effectively and provide long-term tailored support.
- Targeted support – Extra help in Maths, English, and Science is available through morning sessions and after-school clinics.
- Mentorship – Pupils in Years 10 and 11 choose their own staff mentor for academic and personal guidance.
- Beyond the classroom – We continually seek opportunities to deepen understanding, extend learning, and apply knowledge in meaningful ways.
Pastoral Care
Pastoral care is at the heart of life at Durlston. We believe happy children learn best, and our focus on wellbeing is vital to their personal and academic success.
- Every pupil is known, seen, and valued in our small school environment.
- Daily contact with form teachers ensures that small issues are resolved quickly.
- Open communication with parents supports each child’s growth and development.
- We nurture the whole child—academically, socially, and emotionally.
- Pupils are prepared for a changing world, where mindset, adaptability, and resilience are as important as exam results.
Opportunities for Growth
Learning at Durlston extends far beyond the classroom, offering pupils a wealth of opportunities to broaden their horizons.
- Sport for Life – Alongside regular sports lessons and specialist coaching, pupils enjoy lifelong activities such as golf, badminton, Padel, and skiing.
- LE@D (Life Experiences at Durlston) – A timetabled programme teaching practical skills such as ironing a shirt, changing a fuse, managing money, careers advice, and study techniques.
- Leadership and community – Senior pupils are encouraged to take active roles within school life, developing leadership skills and contributing to the wider community.
