Recently, Callum, our Year 10 resident Historian accompanied the family of Captain Blencowe on a meaningful trip to Ypres. Capt Blencowe lost his life in WW1, and although his body was never found, he was commemorated on the Menin Gate.

As a passionate collector of military medals, Callum came into possession of Capt Blencowe’s medals, which sparked an in-depth research project to locate his final resting place. After presenting his findings to the Western Front Association and documenting updates on his blog, he was contacted by Capt Blencowe’s family with extraordinary news — the officer’s grave had been identified after 108 years.

He corresponded with the family, shared his research, and was honoured to be invited to the re-dedication service in Ypres.

The full story of his research is available on his blog: https://battlefieldhistory.co.uk/captain-e-blencowe.../

An incredible journey, culminating in an emotional and proud occasion
